Mini Project two: rocks

Our second mini project is about understanding various key aspects of trees. To do this we will follow the same 4-step process we used for mini project one: trees.

Starting with the signature outer contour (shape) we will use line drawing for step 1.

Then we will move on to step 2 using tonal analysis to understand basic form and shape as well as surface texture.

Step 3 will investigate the colours using an abstract grid system to build up a colour swatch version of the rock. This will also allow us to practice mixing colours and how to load and unload a brush.

The final step, 4, will use the three pieces of research to represent the whole rock(s) as presented in a photographic image(s).

Images of rocks are in our resource pages opposite for you to print and use.
