Tuesday Group - Exotic Hens (of course!)

We started our final project of the term - Exotic Hens. We looked at a whole range of hen images from all around the world, from different cultures. As a group we considered how to approach the subject from a traditional full body image to various extreme close-ups to show shape, pattern, surface texture and colour. Also shown below are completed studies from previous projects.

Fabulous new BBC Online Art Resource

The new BBC online art resource "Your Paintings" is a treasure trove for all people interested in art and artists. This new project is something we should all add to our favourites when searching for information and inspiration during our classes. Click on the image below to go directly to the new site. Happy hunting but make sure you have plenty of tea and biscuits because it is very addictive and you may be on for quite a while!

Tuesday Group - RUINS

This was the second and final week for our RUINS project. In the RUINS we practised use of spongeing, sandpapering, stippling, flicking, spraying, using rock salt, and we learnt how to use hand-torn paper-masking. And one adventurous learner added ground pumice to the paint for a really exciting rough surface texture. All paintings show how we are adding great skills to each of our personal watercolours toolbox of techniques and knowledge. We are now adding experimentation and daring! Enjoy the feast:

Monday Group - ruins, landscapes and more

This was the last week for our RUINS project for some. Whilst for others it was the second and final stage of the glaze/wash landscape painting exercise - where the custard painting turns into a beautiful multicoloured butterfly. In the RUINS we practised use of spongeing, sandpapering, stippling, flicking, spraying, using rock salt, and we learnt how to use hand-torn paper-masking. In the GLAZE/WASH we learnt how to control and apply wet washes onto dry ground; and how to mix colours on the paper surface using transparent glazes. Quite a heady mix of techniques for texture and line qualities. Some of us also brought in other project work that had been further worked. A stunning range of effects and pictures on show below:

Tuesday Group: ruins, glass, landscapes.

The Tuesday Group saw everyone learning about and trying some very new techniques to help with surface texture and colour. Previous work that has now been completed was also brought in for discussion and sharing. Excellent results with every painting having at least one area with a very high standard of attainment.
