Watercolour Painting in Whickham: the first four weeks

This is a new group who are studying watercolour painting in Whickham School in a Gateshead Council Learning and Skills Service evening class. Most are either beginners or have not painted for a long time.
The group includes: Helen, Janet, Ray, Margaret, Olwyn, James, Joyce, Don, Dorothy, Ian, Michael, Kathleen, Evelyn, Alan, Elizabeth, George, Laurence and David.
So far we have covered how to handle various tools, paint, equipment and paper. We have looked at composition, colour theory, colour temperature, colour space. We have experimented with dry and wet techniques and with colour grounds - graduated and flat. We are now starting on the major painting projects.
Here is a sample of the early work of the class. The variety and richness of watercolour painting and of the members of the class is already showing through.
