Our first mini project is about understanding various key aspects of trees. To do this we created a 4-step process.
Starting with the signature outer contour (shape) using line drawing in step 1, we moved on to step 2 using tonal analysis to understand basic form and shape.
Step 3 was to investigate the colours using a abstract grid system to build up a colour swatch version of the tree. This also allowed us to practice mixing colours and how to load and unload a brush.
The final step, 4, was to use the three pieces of research to represent the whole tree as presented in a photographic image.
We did this on both evenings over two weeks and here are the first results. Also shown are some of the latest stages from our family portraits project, started before Christmas, plus a few individual pieces done at home.

January 2014
We hope to start the classes again in January, it all depends on how many people enrol before the deadline. Please hurry as the enrolment shuts end of next week. If we have enough learners we will start the Monday Group on 6th January and the Tuesday Group on 7th January. Both classes will be 6pm-8pm, same location.
In the meantime a very Happy Christmas to one and all!

Final Week of 2013!
Yes it is indeed the end of 2013 as far as courses go. We look forward to January when hopefully we will be back at our easels with large grins on our faces because we are drawing and painting again! Apologies to the Monday group as the photos were somehow damaged - try to get them up next term if people bring their paintings in. See below the Tuesday group's fantastic work in progress:
