Other Cultures Project (our next one)

Other Cultures Projects 2013/2014

Our next project is looking at non-figurative patterns in ancient art from other cultures especially Islam. In our Resources Page "Equality & Diversity" you will find a sample collection from a variety of sources such as the V&A Museum, London., The Muslim Times Online, and Wikipedia. I will add more soon and some contextual background information. Meanwhile use any of these for your patterns or have a search for similar ones online or in your local public library. You will also need some gold paint from a craft shop e.g. Details in Newcastle. This will add a bit of excitement to your paintings!!

7.30 pm            Talk by David Hirst – “Art along the Tyne”

8.00 pm            Interval with wine and refreshments – art demonstrations and chance to view exhibition

8.45 pm            Talk by Rev David Atkinson – “A Journey Through My Paintings”

9.15 pm            View demonstrations, prize draw

The £5.00 ticket charge includes wine and canapés, raffle ticket and entry to the event

Half Term

No classes next week, Monday 28 or Tuesday 29 October. Back on Monday 4 and Tuesday 5 November. Meanwhile there are some examples of Cotman's watercolours in the resources pages on the right of this post. Enjoy your break everyone!

Week 4 Tuesday

Some of the group continued with their mixed media work whilst the rest of the group started the "In The Style Of....John Sell Cotman". We also practiced using a powerful technique to learn how to analyse our paintings and identify what we had learned. It is also good for helping us to be critical friends with each other. Week 3 Monday Group

Tonight we tried our hand at being art critics! Working in pairs, we analysed the critiqued one element of a colleagues painting - great fun, loads of learning. Then we presented our analysis to the whole class. We used our mixed media paintings for the exercise. The images are below - fantastic paintings all round.

We the started our new project "IN THE STYLE OF...John Sell Cotman" by deconstructing his drawing approach. There is no class next week as it is half-term in the school so we will return on 04 November.
